Lynn and Ken wrote about their
MADAGASCAR holiday on
Nosy Be island
Dear Clayton
Back in Harare - back at work!
The trip to Nosy be went without a hitch. Our outward flight to Tana
was delayed by a couple of hours, and we fully expected to have missed
the connection, but Air Mad had kept the flight waiting for us -
wonderful.
Nosy Be Hotel was fantastic. Great service, smashing staff, lovely
beach, good food, really comfortable and great location. It was just
what we needed after a stressful year. They made a real effort to make
us welcome and comfortable. We were also really lucky with the weather
- only half a day of rain in 8 days! It was bright and sunny
most of the time.
IC Hotel in Tana is also a real Gem, couldn't have wished for a nice
place to spend the last night. We were very impressed with the full
breakfast at 4am so that we could catch our flight!
Thank you also, for handling the whole thing so smoothly and
efficiently despite us being so last minute. We will be recommending
you to friends and colleagues.
Very warm wishes for a successful and prosperous 2010

MADAGASCAR Scuba diving holiday:

Subject: Madagascar - wow!
Dear Shan,
Hope
all is well with you.
I
wanted to send this mail to tell you what a fantastic time Paola and
I had in Madagascar but also to thank you for all the effort and
work you put in to make it one of the best experiences of our lives.
Everything run smoothly, all the transfers were effortless and even
our unexpected night in Tana just added to an amazing experience.
Thank
you for helping to make it all possible, even with all the changes
we asked for, you have been nothing but friendly and professional. I
wish only the very best for you in your future.
It is
difficult to say which of the two islands we enjoyed more, they were
so very different it is impossible to compare. The staff and owners
at both were extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming.
Ile
Aux Nattes, St Marie was more rustic but far from basic, meals were
5 star and the accommodation just a few steps from the sea. The two
resident lemurs defiantly rate amongst my highlights, there was also
a pet rabbit named Bert. The dive operation is run from the main
island but arrived to fetch us each day, the only down side is that
there was no where to rinse our kit or hang it up after the days
diving.
Sakatia is more established, our unit was set amongst the trees away
from the beach. At night a family of lemurs would make their way
across our roof into the hills and return the same way in the early
morning to head back into the forest, talking to themselves all the
way, again a highlight! The dive centre is very organised, the staff
very helpful. We were the only two diving during our week so were
made to feel very special, diving on sites rarely explored.
Our
general impression of the diving in Madagascar is WOW!! We
did 16 dives in 7 days! The reefs are totally unspoilt, abundant
fish life and variety we have seldom experienced. The sea conditions
were warm and calm, sometimes it felt like a huge swimming pool.
Paola is now a new convert to night diving which has never appealed
to her before Madagascar!
I can
strongly recommend our trip to anyone wanting to do a diving
holiday, it was the right decision to do both islands but next time
would probably do only one as the internal travelling is long and
tedious, wasting most of the day.
Hope
you get a feeling of how much fun and awsum times we had from these
few words. We will defiantly be going back sometime.
Thank
you very very much :-)

wrote about his
MADAGASCAR holiday:
Dear Carina,
We got back from
Madagascar after a very successful and enjoyable holiday marred only
by a tummy bug which we’ve put down to the Malanil Malaria tablets
we were all taking.
Everything went extremely smoothly with no hitches.
Amarina was just magic. We had 3 adjoining rooms each with our own
small patio about 15 meters from the beach. We all sat on 1 patio
each evening with a drink from the bar fridge watching the sunset
which every night never failed to impress. Absolutely out of this
world. I have never seen such magnificent sunsets. We also made
use of the fabulous beach bar on occasion. The staff at Amarina are
warm and friendly and the service top class. You drop a fork, bend
down to pick it up and there’s a waiter at your elbow with a new
one. They all speak French, their English is sketchy and our French
was sketchy so we had many a good giggle trying to communicate. The
food according to my “we’ll eat anything” family was superb. They
also served duck and on one particular night, frogs legs which a
couple of the family members tried and said never again!!!
We made full use of our days at Amarina. Our second
day we did their 3 island tour of Nosy Komba (to visit the lemurs),
Nosy Tanikely for snorkelling ending up on Nosy Sakatia for an
unforgettable lunch BBQ (absolutely delicious) on the beach. The
lemurs are gorgeously ugly and meeting them was so much fun. They
call them “Maki, Maki, Maki” and through the trees, these furry long
tailed bundles come bouncing, jumping onto your shoulder if you have
a bit of banana in your hand. We had a wonderful guide Jullen, for
the day. 88 Euros and worth every cent.
In between excursions we snorkelled right off the
beach at Amarina at low tide. The reef is about 100m off the beach
so you can walk on the exposed rock (aqua shoes a necessity) or wade
across and enjoy the beautiful coral, amazing fishies and some
really fat starfish! The pool at Amarina was great but at 34
degrees, definitely not refreshing.
We left Madagascar feeling that we had really seen
Nosy Be.
Thank you for all your assistance in making our
wonderful holiday a reality. We appreciate it.
Regards,
Charisse van Rooyen & Peter Taylor

MADAGASCAR holiday:
(Now here is a tough story with a
happy ending !!... ED .....)
Last year I planned an island holiday but was not really sure where to
go, I bumped into your website and landed on the lap of Carina, she
was so enthusiastic, I had no option to go with her ideas
MADAGASCAR was the destination.
I later lost interest as out of the
blue I was involved in a divorce and had no further interest in the
holiday, now already paid for.
Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong, a divorce, the flight
from JHB delayed for 24 hours you name it.
Carina kept things going and my
spirit up, she convinced me to do the island thing. In Johannesburg I
was the only passenger on that doomed flight who had contact with my
travel agent that evening, stranded in Johannesburg and all the other
passengers looked at me. Carina gave me her cell phone number and we
were in communication all evening until the matter was resolved and
all the passengers put up in a hotel in Johannesburg. I am back home
with very good memories and excellent photographs.
Carina kept things going, we all
enjoyed a fabulous holiday and to cap it all, Carina even arranged for
a refund from African Encounters for all our wasted costs as result of
the delayed flight.
Carina is tops and there is no reason
why I or anyone else should seek assistance anywhere else that at
Selftours cc.
All the compliments to Carina and Selftours cc.

Linda Nielsen wrote about their
MADAGASCAR
Christmas holiday:
Dear Cheryl,
Happy New Year!
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and wish you all the best for
2008.
First of all, sorry
it's taken me a while to get back to you - as you know we arrived
back on the 29th to Joburg but we only got back to Zimbabwe
yesterday evening as we took a slow drive back, stopping over in
Pietersburg to stock up!
Now that we're back
safe and sound and have had time to unpack our bags - all that
remains is to thank you very much for organising the PERFECT holiday
for us! Everything went like clock work, no delays, no problems at
all and the hotels that you chose for us were just great. Of course Relias des Plateaux, perfect because it was so close to the airport,
so very easy for all of us. Next day, as we approached the island
and looked out the window - we knew we were landing in paradise! So
beautiful - couldn't wait to get to Vani Vola and unpack! Vani Vola
was another perfect choice for us - great family hotel and the hosts
Fabienne and Jacques did everything they could to make us feel at
home. We spent the day with them visiting Ile aux Nattes for
exploring the island, lunch and snorkelling on one of the days and
got to know them a little better than just manager/client, that
broke the ice for the rest of the trip. On other days we rented
quads/bikes and did a tour of the island (the roads are terrible!)
but we managed. Spent the day at La Crique relaxing, snorkelling
and the boys went biking again. Christmas was celebrated the French
way on the eve of 24th with a delicious celebration dinner and all
the trimings (unfortunately 2 of us in the party were not well so
couldn't enjoy the feast) but by the next day we were over our woes
and ready for more celebrations! Again, Fabienne went out of her
way to make it special for the kids with presents under the tree -
they loved it! It really was a holiday to remember and just what we
all needed to re-charge our batteries.
So once again,
special thanks to you Cheryl and the rest of the Selftours team -
I'll be singing your praises all over Zimbabwe for sure!!

MADAGASCAR
holiday:
Hi Carina,
I am back (urgh!), but thought I would drop you a line and let you
know how our holiday was...
First of all, Madagascar is an amazing country. I fell in love with it
straight away. The people are awesome, and even though their English
is very limited, they were more than accommodating - drawing pictures
in the sand etc. etc.
Nosy Be Hotel was lovely. It was quaint and beautiful and the staff
were out of this world. Not too much of a great beach and I saw this
was the case with most hotels on Nosy Be, but the excursions were
definitely worth it. We managed to swim with turtles and most
importantly, I saw my lemurs who promptly jumped all over me. I will
send you the photos as soon as I have loaded them. The food they put
out on the excursions is also out of this world! We had a variety of
crab, barracuda, zebu meat, some fabulous potato dish that just took
my breath away and all sorts of other things.
Our last night in Tana was also lovely. The Relaix De Plateaux is a
wonderful hotel and we were happy to part with our last Ariary to a
waiter called Hery who was just fantastic.
I just want to thank you for everything you organised - it all went
ever so smooth. I will not hesitate to recommend you to my friends and
clients and will definitely use you again on our next adventure (not
sure where to??????!!!!).
I wish you many blessings for the New Year! Thanks again!

Stewart & Michelle from South Africa wrote about their
MADAGASCAR
holiday:
Hi Carina
Wow – what an awesome holiday. Thanks again for all your efforts in
making it such a special trip. The hotels where we stayed were really
beautiful and we would definitely recommend these to others as well as
recommend the services of Selftours. All the hotel staff were
incredibly friendly and tried their best to communicate with us in
English.
Arrival
at the airport in Tana was quite hectic – it takes forever to get
through passport control. The good thing was that our visa’s only cost
us 13 Euros each as apposed to the 30 we were expecting.
We eventually arrived at the Pallisandre at about 12:30am on Sunday
morning. The Pallisandre hotel is very elegant and the room was
lovely.
Onwards to beautiful Sainte Marie. Richard and I think that Moasoandro
was definitely the best choice for staying on the island – its far
away from the touristy part of the island and really afforded us the
rest and relaxation we were craving. The staff were incredibly
friendly, the rooms rustic and wonderfully close to the beach and the
beach was…heaven. Highlights for us included seeing and hearing the
whales, snorkelling the coral reef, sipping cocktails at sunset and
getting a very sore butt travelling the islands bumpy roads by
motorbike. The food was quite good – just breakfast could have been a
bit more adventurous – we gave the hotel the feedback that some fruit
with breakfast would make the difference.
When
we arrived back in Tana on Thursday afternoon we were greeted by the
friendly face of Tu (not sure how to spell his name) who took us
straight through to the brand new Nissan Patrol driven by Sisi. After
a four hour trip we arrived at Vakona Lodge after dark. Once again a
beautiful hotel with very comfortable rooms awaited us.
The next day Tu and Sisi collected us again and took us to the Perinet
reserve – we spent about four hours haring around the forest lead by
our hugely enthusiastic and expert guide, Zaka. He helped us to find
four species of lemur, including a super close up of some bamboo
lemurs. We were also entertained by the Indri cries, saw plenty
amazing birds and even 3 snakes! After lunch and an afternoon rest we
were taken to lemur island where we had an absolute ball feeding and
playing with the lemurs. Then off to the Vakona reserve before heading
off for our nocturnal walk with Zaka. Although we did not see any
nocturnal lemurs we saw frogs, geckos and chameleons – just by walking
along the road!
We were really sad to say goodbye
after such a short visit and headed back to Tana on Saturday morning.
After a short stop at the artisans market it was off to the airport
and home. Tu was incredibly attentive and went out of his way to make
the last part of our holiday truly special.
On the whole the trip was really
well organised – we hope to get the chance to utilize your services in
the future.
Thanks again for all your assistance and take care.
Kind regards
Michelle |

Dear Cheryl
What a wonderful trip we had to Madagascar! You arrangements were
perfect and the trip went without a hitch (other than being bitten
by a lemur and having to find a local "dokteur" to sort me out!!
Nosy Be hotel was
great, especially the food!
We did find that the excursions were quite pricey (paid in Euro of
course) for what one got. It was great having the full meal package,
but we missed most of the lunches because of excursions where often
lunch was included. I am not sure whether it would have been better
to pay separately for the 2 or 3 lunches we had at the Hotel? Main
course was about R100,00 and starter and dessert R60,00 each.
Anyway, we have
certainly recommended Nosy Be as well as SelfTours to all we have
spoken to.
We'll be holidaying in Plett in July, so will maybe have a moment to

We loved the Tana hotel - wanted 2 more nights there to explore
Tana a bit and do some craft shopping. Vanila Hotel was incredible
- unit #24 was on the end toward the ocean and like a private house
near the beach. We had had enough of islands sailing around the
Seychelles so we did not take any of the tours. The published taxi

Candice Levieux from Pretoria South Africa wrote about their
Zanzibar trip:
Dear Clayton
Apologies for the delay in feedback on our Zanzibar
trip, but things have been very busy since I returned. A very big
thank you to you for your very efficient service and tour arrangements.
We had a great time and everything went off without a hitch. Zantours
were also very helpful and efficient and were impressive in their
professionalism. Dhow Palace was great – I wish I had another night
to spend there and Nungwi was peaceful and relaxing.
Thanks all round for your service and assistance.
Have already recommended you to friends and colleagues.
Regards

Hello Steve
I just have to say what a brilliant efficient company Self Tours
is regarding car hire. We will definitely use your service again
whenever we come back to S.A
If you recall, we arranged car hire for our July
holiday at Jan Smuts airport and delivery back to Randburg.
We collected the car from Jan Smuts airport as arranged, the process
took only a few minutes because of pre-payment and we were on our
way. The car was even upgraded to a larger car free, when we requested
an extension of an additional two days hire this was done so fast
and efficiently.
Returning the car at Jan Smut airport instead of Randburg as previously
arranged was an absolute pleasure as the speed of handling the return
car was so fast and brilliantly handled, less than one minute to
complete formalities.......very impressive.
In all, both my wife and I were so impressed with
how this car hire was handled from beginning to end that we cannot
imagine hiring a car in future from anyone else but Self Tours.
Well done on an exceptional service.
We look forward to doing business again in the future.
Regards

am a South African working on contract in the Gulf but returning
to S.A for a holiday.
In going through the internet I discovered Selftours and despite
having reservations about internet bookings decided to book a car
with them.
I am very impressed with the efficient manner at which my booking
was handled and the speed of response. After checking out competitor
pricing Selftours proved to be the lowest and best regarding insurance.
I am therefore looking forward to a hassle free car hire if the
booking is anything to go by.
